Locations
National are proud to offer over 175 participating locations throughout Canada at various easily accessible airport and downtown depots.
Driver Requirements
- The minimum age for drivers is 21 years (Newfoundland 25 years).
- For drivers between the age of 21 and 24 years inclusive, a fee of CA$25 per
day is applied.
- All drivers must carry a valid drivers licence, (photo card and paper licence),
a valid passport, return ticket and a pre paid voucher.
- Drivers must be in possession of a valid major credit card (UK bank/debit cards
will not be accepted).
Additional Drivers
- All additional drivers should be requested at the time of booking your car.
- A CA$10 per person per day fee will be charged locally for each
additional adult.
- All drivers are subject to the rental conditions above.
Length of Rental
The rental period is calculated on a 24-hour system; if you pick your car up for 2 days on Monday at noon the rental ends on Wednesday at noon. Late returns will incur an additional hourly charge and will be assessed up to the equivalent of the regular daily local rate and must be paid locally. The minimum length of rental is 2 days.
Prices
The date of pick-up determines the whole rental period i.e. If the rental commences on the last date of the peak period, then the peak season price will apply to the entire rental.
Fuel
You are required to purchase a tank of gas at the time of pick-up. The car can then be returned empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.
Partially Used Vouchers or No-Shows
Refunds will not be made for partially used vouchers. A no-show penalty fee will be charged on all vehicles.
Driving Restrictions
- Vehicles may be driven into any US state or Canadian province but must be returned to the point of origin unless a one-way rental has been pre-arranged. No vehicle may be taken into Mexico.
- Vehicles may not be driven on gravel or unpaved roads. If you do drive on such roads your LDW will be voided.
Roadside Assistance
Wherever you drive in North America, in the event of an on–the–road mishap, help is just a toll–free call away. With National’s Roadside Assistance, they will help or answer any questions as needed. National is there to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so any problems will be dealt with fast and efficiently.
Seat Belts
It is compulsory in all provinces and territories of Canada for seats belts to be worn.
One-Way Rentals
- One-way rentals must be requested at the time of booking. These are to be paid locally.
- With the exception of the following FREE ONE -WAYS, a charge will be made for all vehicles picked up in one location and dropped of at another. Full details of charges are on request.
FREE One-Ways
One ways are permitted on all cars excluding the economy category. All details are correct at the time of going to print and are subject to change.
Included in your Car Hire
Unlimited Mileage
All locations throughout Canada (with the exception of the following) offer unlimited mileage. For depots that have limited mileage, when the mileage is exceeded a charge will be made and must be paid locally. Cars picked up in Jasper offer 100 Kilometres/62 miles free per day. Whitehorse offers 200 kilometres/124 miles free per day.
Airport Fees/Taxes
All taxes on pre-paid items have been included in the cost, along with any relevant airport fees.
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
LDW eliminates or reduces the renters financial responsibility for loss or damage to the rental vehicle (excluding windscreens and punctures). In Canada the deductible for renters 21 to 24 years of age is CA$500, for renter’s 25 years and older the deductible is CA$300. CA$1,500 LDW deductible may apply to selected locations - please ask for details at the time of booking.
Liability Insurance
For the peace of mind and financial protection of you and all other authorised drivers, our rental package includes up to CA$1 million liability coverage. This cover protects you against third party injury/death and property damage.
Not Included in your Car Hire
Deposit
A deposit will be required to cover extras, which have not been prepaid. A major credit card is required for each rental (in the name of one of the drivers) and will be debited for any incidental charges made during the rental period.
Additional Equipment
Should you require child seats or ski racks (subject to availability) these may be requested at the time of booking and any additional charges and taxes will be passed on to you and paid for locally.
Taxes
Should you purchase any additional items locally then the standard taxes will be applied.
Supplements
Supplements required for pick-up in certain destinations, as per below. Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Port Hardy - £92 per week/ £14 per day.
Newfoundland, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Smithers, Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Kamloops and Kelowna - £54 per week/£8 per day Castlegar and Cranbrook - £139 per week/£20 per day.
Roadside Service Plan (RSP)
Safeguards against unplanned expenses such as flat tyres and broken glass replacement. From $5.99 per day. Please call for details.
