A relatively small and compact capital city, Ottawa offers a host of attractions set alongside wonderful parklands and pathways. The Rideau Canal, stretching five miles through the city, offers cruises during summer and ice-skating when the canal is frozen in winter. Visit one of the many national museums, observe the ‘changing of the guard’ at Parliament Hill (end June to end August), marvel at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, a deluxe hotel that oozes class and sophistication, and visit Gatineau Park, just 10 minutes from the city.
